September 23rd is Bisexuality+ Day, and in anticipation of our new Caledon Public Library LGBTQ+ book club starting September 26, here are some great places to find your next LGBTQ+-themed read:
The Rainbow Book List: Each year the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association chooses a list of books with “significant and authentic GLBTQ content, which are recommended for people from birth through eighteen years of age”. Explore their top ten list for this year, as well as the many other notable titles included on their site.
The Stonewall Awards: The GLBT Round Table also awards the year’s best LGBTQ+ fiction and non-fiction for various age groups. Take a look at their list of winners all the way back to 1971 when the awards were established.
The Lambda Awards: The “Lammys” are the annual awards of the Lambda Literary Foundation, whose award winners span genres and audiences.
Not sure where to begin? Give Fun Home a try. This best-selling graphic novel memoir by Alison Bechdel won the Stonewall and Lambda Awards, and was adapted into a Tony Award winning musical. In it, Alison reckons with the memory of her father, a closeted man who may or may not have died by suicide, in light of her own coming out.
