When I find myself with the “book blahs” and nothing is holding my attention, I turn to audiobooks. Sometimes the change in format is enough to turn the reading slump around. And for the record, listening to audiobooks ABSOULTELY “counts” as reading. If anyone challenges you on that, tell them a librarian said so!
I like using Hoopla for borrowing audiobooks. You can stream or download them instantly to any digital device that has the Hoopla app installed. The best part is they’ll return themselves on the due date, so no need to worry about late fees!
Here’s a Hoopla video tutorial and instructions on how to input your PIN. If you’ve lost your library card or don’t know your PIN, email us at email@example.com – we’re always happy to help!

For fans of Robin Benway’s Far from the Tree, a powerful and heartwarming look at a teen girl about to age out of the foster care system.
Growing up in foster care, Muir has lived in many houses. And if she’s learned one thing, it is to Pack. Light. Carry only what fits in a suitcase.
Toothbrush? Yes. Socks? Yes. Emotional attachment to friends? Foster families? A boyfriend? Nope! There’s no room for any additional baggage.
Muir has just one year left before she ages out of the system. One year before she’s free. One year to avoid anything-or anyone-that could get in her way.
Then she meets Francine. And Kira. And Sean.
And everything changes.

Making things astronomically worse, Chuck finds out her dad is way behind on back rent-meaning they might be losing Bigmouth’s, the only thing keeping Chuck’s family in San Francisco. And now the only person other than Chuck who wants to do anything about it is Beckett Porter, her annoyingly attractive ex-best friend. So when Beckett propositions Chuck with a plan to make serious cash infiltrating the Bay Area action bowling scene, she accepts. But she can’t shake the nagging feeling that she’s acting irrationally-too much like her mother for comfort. Plus, despite her best efforts to keep things strictly business, Beckett’s charm is winning her back over…in ways that go beyond friendship. If Chuck fails, Bigmouth’s Bowl and their San Francisco legacy are gone forever. But if she succeeds, she might just get everything she ever wanted.
The Shadow Club starts simply enough: the kids who are tired of being second-best get together and, for the first time, talk about how they feel. But soon the members decide to play practical jokes on the first-place winners they envy, and things begin to spin dangerously out of control.
If none of these appeal to you, go to the advanced settings in Hoopla and input “teen” in the subject bar. Once you get the results, you can filter them by format (choose audiobook) and other filters like popularity and release date. Happy listening!
