Before Tomorrowland by Jeff Jensen, Brad Bird, Jonathan Case and Damon Lindelof
Set in 1939, Before Tomorrowland follows Lee and his mom, Clara, who go to New York to a science-fiction convention. They are handed a comic book that has a secret code that is supposed to lead them on a great adventure to a secret land invented by the secret society, Plus Ultra. Things are complicated when Henry, a man with a troubled past, will do anything to get revenge on those who wronged him years ago.
Before Tomorrowland has a lot of action. I wouldn’t say it is boring, but I found it very confusing. It jumps around to different characters and it was hard to keep track of who was who, especially in the beginning. I also feel that it didn’t give enough insight into the characters. The reason why Henry is so driven to get revenge is only revealed halfway through the book and so, at the beginning, I couldn’t understand his motives. I found it difficult to get into and I didn’t look forward to reading it at all. It is a cool idea and the plot is very interesting but I think it would have been much better with more background information on the characters and the society Plus Ultra.
