New Year, New Books!

While some people look forward to New Years as a time of change and personal growth, I tend to look at it as the opportunity for one thing: New Books! As 2017 gets underway, the books and sequels I have been desperately pining for are that much closer to landing in my eager, waiting hands! This year promises an exceptional array of new and exciting YA titles that I’m anxious to start reading! Here are a few of the YA books coming out earlier this year that I am most looking forward to checking out! Click on the title to reserve your copy today!
This book has been generating a crazy amount of buzz leading up to its release, and its by far the YA that I am most looking forward to reading this year! Described by Library Journal as having an atmosphere reminiscent of The Night Circus with a competition worthy of The Hunger Games, Caraval sounds like it will be filled with plenty of magical intrigue! The story focuses on Scarlett, who scores the once in a lifetime opportunity of seeing Caraval, an audience-participation performance that takes place once a year on a far away island. Scarlet has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is just a performance, but as the stakes are raised she nevertheless becomes entangled in a game of love, heartbreak, and survival.
This YA Fantasy has also been garnering some praiseworthy reviews leading up to its publication this month. According to Goodreads the story focuses on Ruby, who “is a fireblood who must hide her powers of heat and flames from the cruel frostblood ruling class that wants to destroy all that are left of her kind.” When Ruby’s mother is killed, Ruby finds herself joining a group of rebel frostbloods who are intent on killing their rampaging king. The first in a trilogy, Frostblood promises lots of fast-paced action and thrills!
Wires and Nerves by Marissa Meyer
The world of the Cinder is back! Continuing the much beloved Lunar Chronicles series with a spin-off graphic novel, Wires and Nerves focuses on Iko as she attempts to track down a rogue pack of wolf-hybrid soldiers who are threatening the peace between Earth and Luna. I am beyond excited to see Marissa Meyer’s world brought to life through art, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that most of the characters from the original series will make an appearance at some point!
The Hate U Give by A.C. Thomas
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, The Hate You Give sounds like it will be a moving and powerful look at racism and justice. According to Goodreads, the story focuses on Starr, “a 16-year-old girl who moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives, and the fancy prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed.”
