In 2016 there were a plethora of critically acclaimed literary adaptations released, from August Wilson Pulitzer prize winning play “Fences” to the film “Arrival” based on the short story “Story of Your Life” by Ted Chiang. In fact, five out of the nine films nominated for best picture at the 89th Academy Awards are previously published literary works. Check out the nominated “Hidden Figures” based on the true story by Margot Lee Shetterly or the biopic “Lion” based on Saroo Brierley’s “A Long Way Home”.
